The Sierra Beat Down

Approaching yet another Pass. Basically we go up and over a pass every day, then try to get as close to the next one as possible for the following day.

Muir Hut on top of Muir Pass. There was about 8 of us that spent the night inside. It was probably the warmest night we've had in the Sierras even at 12,000 feet.

When we are not going over snowy mountain passes we are crossing rivers. We have to cross at least a few big rivers a day as well as splashing through run off. Wet, cold feet all day long.

Typical scene after crossing a river, drying out and eating food.

Dagney crossing Mono Creek. This was probably the scariest river ford yet. It wasn't that deep but it was Raging!!

Hello Sierras!

Water, Water everywhere. It's so great to not have to worry about where the next water source is. It's all around and it's delicious!

Standing on top of Mt. Whitney. At 14498, it's the highest peak in the lower 48. It was so amazing up there neither words or pictures can do it justice. We had the absolute perfect weather that day. Sunny, warm, no wind, and clear skys to see as far as possible.

The Team

Hut on top of Whitney

Approaching Forrester Pass. You can see where the mountain dips down to make a V, that's what we went up. It was harder and scarier than Whitney!

The trail was mostly covered under snow. So we basically went straight up the snow to the right untill we found the dry trail. Then it switched back across the snowy shoot then up and over!

Sketchy!!

Top of Forrester Pass. We were so happy to be up there finally, although we still had a Long decent ahead if us.

Looking North from the top of Forrester Pass

Looking South. Yes, we came across all that snow at the bottom!

Alpine lake on the way up to Kearsarge Pass.

Standing at the top of Kearsarge Pass. It was so windy up there I was literally getting blown over.

Bye Bye Southern California!

We made it to Kennedy Meadows!! We are so excited. It is a pretty big milestone in the trail. It's the end of the desert and the beginning of the Sierra Mountains. It's like starting a whole new trail, everything we are used to is about to be thrown out the window. Routines will be forgotten, aches and pains will be revisited, beauty and amazement will be brand-new. Can't wait!

Woke up to a misty wonderland. It was so cool walking through this, it felt like we were in a fairytale!

Taking a break in the limited shade of a Joshua Tree. We thought we were done with the desert after the Mojave but we were Wrong! It was so hot with no shade or water for two days. One of the toughest sections we've had!

There were a bunch of trail angels putting on a week of trail magic at Walker Pass. We got in about 1:00 and stayed all night. They had so much food, everything a hiker could dream of. Cold drinks, fruit, sweets, chips and salsa, veggies and Beer!

Lori makes the BEST cookies! These were such a treat getting into Kennedy, I ate 3 right away and shared the rest. Everyone was in cookie bliss!

Old and New. They say you can tell a lot about a person by the shoes they wear, what do these say?

We will not be going to Mono Hot Spings any more so please don't send anything there. Instead we will be going to Lone Pine- Love Em

The Mojave

Another bridge to the rescue. We hung out under this from 10:00 am untill 6:00 pm. It would be death to try and hike through the mojave in the middle of the day. We started out the night before at 8:15 pm and walked untill 11:00 pm.Then the next morning we got up at 5:00 am and boogied to this bridge to wait out the heat. There were about 10 of us there.

Heading out across the mojave at about 6:00 pm after hanging out under the bridge for 8 hours.

We were so excited to be warm for once. It was 9:00 pm and we were still in shorts and a tank top. Usually we are throwing on layers around 5 or 6.

There were so many windmills coming into Tehachapi. These things are huge when you get up close to them.

We should be in Kennedy Meadows around June 9!!- Love Em
